About аIJʿª½±½á¹û

The аIJʿª½±½á¹û (аIJʿª½±½á¹û) is the United Kingdom national society member of the European Headache Federation (EHF).

Membership is open to all healthcare professionals with an interest in headache. We work closely with other UK and international headache groups.

The Association was founded in 1992 by Dr TJ Steiner, The Princess Margaret Migraine Clinic, Charing Cross Hospital, London and was incorporated in 1998.

As in all limited companies, the management of аIJʿª½±½á¹û is in the hands of a Board of Directors, which is known as Council. The members of Council are also the Trustees of the Charity, and have responsibility for the day-to-day running of the Association.

Membership starts from only £50 a year and is open to all healthcare professionals with an interest in headache. 


Senior Clinicians and GPs - £110 annual fee.

Neurology Junior doctors in training posts and GP registrars - £50 annual fee.

Headache Specialist Practitioners & PAMs - £50 annual fee.

We work closely with other UK and International headache groups.

аIJʿª½±½á¹û often is asked to participate in NICE appraisals and comment on new medications and devices for headache care.

4. Have the opportunity to join аIJʿª½±½á¹û Council as an Officer or Honorary Advisor.

Members of аIJʿª½±½á¹û Council help determine the strategy for аIJʿª½±½á¹û and its goals.


The Vicky Quarshie Memorial Bursary

The Vicky Quarshie Memorial Bursary for Headache Specialist Nurse members of аIJʿª½±½á¹û is available to support attendance at conferences and other headache related activities.

Promoting Education.

The aim of аIJʿª½±½á¹û is to promote education on headache disorders both among the professionals and members of the general public. In addition аIJʿª½±½á¹û encourages its members to share their experience through interactive forum.

Some of the areas where аIJʿª½±½á¹û would like you to share your experience with other headache experts include:

  • Use of Greater Occipital Nerve Block in the treatment of headache.
  • Use of Botulinum Toxin type A in the prevention of Chronic Migraine.
  • Seeing a rare headache disorder such as Paroxysmal Hemicrania, SUNCT, SUNA, Hemicrania Continua, Hypnic Headaches etc.
  • Discussion through forum of any difficult case that you see in your practice.
  • Development of a multi-centre database for cluster headache patients.
